In the 1980s, the men's pro tour included tournaments each summer in Stowe and Stratton Mountain.
"It was a big disappointment when tennis left Stowe," said Mike Kazakoff, a tennis fan from West Hartford, Connecticut, who owns a vacation home here. "It's terrific, we're really glad to have it back."
The venue, adjacent to Stowe Mountain Lodge at the foot of Mt. Mansfield, will hold 2,700 fans with a court surface identical to the U.S. Open.
Sam Gaines, president of Spruce Peak at Stowe, said the event would fill hotels and add cachet to a world-famous resort. "Really what it does is bring the community together," he said. "A lot of people haven't seen what's been going on at Spruce Peak for a number of years and this is such a great opportunity to showcase the resort and the community."
