The US Open warm-up event returns this August with an expanded draw and prize money.
STOWE, VT (May 1, 2018)- Professional tennis returns to Vermont for its second year as the Stowe Mountain Lodge Classic hosts some of the top men's tennis players coming to Stowe to prepare for the US Open, which takes place the following week in New York. The second-year event builds on the success of the 2017 tournament, won by world #22 Albert Ramos, and has continued its partnership with luxury mountainside community, Spruce Peak and Stowe Mountain Lodge, to host the eight-player exhibition event this August 18th–22nd.
The Stowe Mountain Lodge Classic received USTA New England's 2017 Special Tennis Event of the Year award on January 20th, 2018 at the USTA New England Tennis Awards Ceremony in Marlborough, MA. Our team is dedicated to making this unique event an annual tradition, and to making it bigger and better each year. We're proud to have added to the tennis landscape in New England, as it's been our dream to bring pro tennis back to Vermont for a long while.
We're honored to accept this award—thank you!
“We’re trying to focus on providing the players an incredible experience with this intimate venue,” Gaines said. “We get to introduce them to a new population.”
The tournament is also expected to benefit the region economically. For the FedCup in 2007, 75 percent of tickets were sold in Vermont, while the Stowe Mountain Lodge Classic has sold over 50 percent out of state, according to Chmura.
